Holter monitoring is the principal outpatient diagnostic procedure for arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats).

The patient is fitted with a small recording device with leads attached to the patient's chest.

The monitoring process typically lasts 24 hours, during which the Holter monitor records the patient’s heartbeat activity
